A Response To “A Cool Hour on the Israel-Palestine Conflict”

Over at Normblog and under the title ‘A Cool Hour on the Israel-Palestine Conflict’, Samuel Fleischacker begins what promises to be an extremely interesting series of posts here. Although I share his overall view that what is involved in this conflict is a “tragic clash of just claims”, I’d like to take issue here with some of the points he makes.

Stifling Criticism - The Case of Evelyn Hecht-Galinski

An oft heard complaint from practitioners of the new, cool, environmentally responsible, GMO free antisemitism is that participants in the great Zionist conspiracy use their influence in the media to stifle criticism of Israel. This leads them to make much use of such phrases as “speaking out”, “refusing to be silenced” and suchlike.

Enslaved by ultra-Zionists…

The Buenos Aires Herald was founded in 1876 and has been published without interruption ever since. Despite the decline in recent decades of the English-speaking community that used to form its core readership, it continues to have a respectable circulation. The newspaper takes pride in the courage its journalists displayed during the 1976 - 1983 military dictatorship when they were among the very few to speak out against the mass slaughter of the government’s opponents. In December 2007 it was taken over by the group owned by media magnate Sergio Spolszky.
