I have never pictured AJC, the organization which sponsors Z Word, and where I proudly work, as being driven by a particularly American Jewish “psychopathology;” nor have I ever been aware that AJC actively colludes with those who seek to wipe Israel out of existence; nor did I know that my colleagues would sit happily in the same room as those who would deny the Holocaust in which six million Jews, including members of my own family, were exterminated.
AJC, which publishes Z Word, has started a new blog featuring news, views and commentary as the Durban Review Conference in Geneva approaches. It’s called Durban II Countdown and is a must-read in the coming weeks.

The American Jewish Committee, which sponsors Z Word, has issued the following statement.
“The anticipated victory of Obama in US elections signals the end of the Jewish domination - Everything changes in USA and we hope that it will be more democratic and humane”. So said today’s headline of the Greek newspaper Avriani - which, as David T observes, is a mainstream daily. The Rev. Jesse Jackson is known for his careless mouth - remember that recent remark about what he’d do to a certain part of Barack Obama’s anatomy? Such free association has often landed him in fights with the Jewish community. These tend to follow a pattern. He says something outrageous (for example, back in 1984, he referred to New York as “hymietown” in a conversation with a journalist,) a furore follows, he eventually apologizes, there is both hope and expectation that it won’t happen again, and then…it happens again.
Noel Ignatiev is one the last people you would expect to be authoring an entry on Zionism for an encyclopedia published under a well-known, trusted imprint. But open Volume 3 of the “Encyclopedia of Race and Racism,” which carries the names of both Macmillan Reference USA (now owned by the Michigan-based Gale, Cengage Learning company) and the Macmillan Social Science Library, and you will see that he has done just that.

Among American Jews, those who identify as liberals outnumber conservatives by more than two to one. When it comes to the Presidential campaign, it is the issues of concern to all Americans - especially the nosediving economy and health care - which guide voting intentions. When it comes to the Middle East, the overwhelming majority feels a sense of closeness towards Israel - but there is general pessimism over the prospects for peace in the region as well as significant doubt over the rectitude of a military assault upon Iran’s nuclear installations.
