My Uncle Heinrich, a botanist, ran afoul of the Peronistas in the 1940's and was never heard of again. And I was working on the plan and design of of the Center for Jewish History in New York City, when we heard of the news of the bombing of the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina. That, along with the earlier bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Argentina and the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, caused the CJH Board and the architects, Beyer Blinder and Belle to reconsider the original, already heavily secured design and install a variety of blast resistant measures. Since that time, many many synagogues, Jewish Community Centers, Schools and senior citizens centers have done so as well. No Jew is ever really safe; complacency and a belief in full assimilation play right into the hands of our mortal enemies.
