Belowdecks On The Mavi Marmara

The dominant narrative of Zionist storm troopers massacring innocent peace activists on the Mavi Marmara is now so well established  that no amount of evidence supporting Israel’s version of events is likely to make any difference. Still, it seems to impossible not to comment on this series of photos published by the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet.

It shows three bloodied, dazed and disarmed commandos being held on one of the lower decks of the flagship of the Gaza flotilla. I suppose the fact that the pictures were published by Turkey’s biggest national daily paper will stifle allegations that they are fakes but let’s wait on see on that.

The newspaper’s decision to publish the photos is as interesting as the photos themselves. After all, they corroborate what Israel has been saying all along. I think the headline, “Commando In Tears” on one of the stories that accompany the gallery of photos gives us a clue as to why the decision was taken.  The desire to display  injured, prostrate and distraught Jewish bodies for the delight of readers seems to have  trumped all other considerations.  As well as that, there’s the often  demonstrated desire of Israel’s enemies to see its strength as a sham, based on intrigue and conspiracies, and the real character of the state and its people to be effete and feeble.

One last point, whoever in Israel is responsible for approving the plan that led to the situation illustrated in the photographs deserves to be court martialled, if in uniform. If it’s a politician he needs to be defenestrated from public life and not allowed to return.

I second the defenestration motion. I’ll even help.

Glad the Turks published this. One more piece of evidence against the peaceful humanitarians lie.

But alas, Eamonn, I think you’re right. The piracy and massacre narrative has stuck.

I agree that the IDF authorities responsible for this fiasco should be courtmartialed and the politicians lose their seats; starting with Likud in general and Nethanyahu in particular.

Israel would have been much better off under Meretz/Yachad; whose views the American Jewish Committee routinely ignores because it has such a
right wing bias. What a shame, this could have been avoided!
