Where Are Hamas?

Catherine Ashton, the EU’s High Representative for foreign affairs, paid a visit to Gaza and wrote an op-ed about her experience. She didn’t mention Hamas, which rules the strip with an iron fist, once. That omission wasn’t picked up by the New York Times sub-editors either. Let’s be thankful that the Elder did.

and apart from that, what an utterly wet, useless text it is.

“I saw a school for girls where pupils receive a solid education, including on human rights.”

HAMAS-run schools do teach about human rights, but the vision of human rights they advance is a thoroughly perverse one. The Commissioner should know better than to superficially accept whatever rosy picture HAMAS officials show her.

Apparently “human rights” means objecting to child labor. Ashton must have had very low expectations.
