More Of The Same From Muñoz

Juan Miguel Muñoz write in El País today about the efforts threats to arrest Tzipi Livni if she visits London. He says that

Worried Israeli leaders are resorting to ferocious diplomatic pressure in response to legal incidents like this in Europe.

Little Israel is in a position to put ferocious diplomatic pressure on all of Europe. What kind of worldview would a person want to have to be able to say a thing like that? They’d probably need to imagine that Israel is only the visible part of a vast network of power and influence, a network capable of bending the will of countries like France, Germany and the UK.

He goes on to say accuse Foreign Minister Lieberman of using a threatening tone in saying,

We reject this cynical legal decision against Livni that was initiated by radical elements. If the UK does not amend the law that allows detention orders against Israeli officials, relations between our countries will suffer.

More like a statement of the obvious than a threat, I’d say. What state is going to maintain good relations with another that allows its leader of the opposition to be arrested? And again, what’s this about threats? How is Lieberman or any other Israeli government minister in a position to threaten the UK with anything?

And finally, there’s this,

Apart from a handful of Israeli activists, academics and journalists who demand a South African style boycott to crush the intransigence of the governments of Israel, the population continues to believe in the official discourse.

So, Israel is populated by a heaving mass of morally numbed imbeciles who are unable to bring themselves to see the imperious necessity of having their own country made into an official international pariah. How stupid ordinary Israelis must be in order to put their faith in their own elected leaders.
