Judge Refuses Bail to Buenos Aires Antisemites

Federal Judge Claudio Bonadío yesterday denied bail to the five detainees arrested as a result of their participation in an antisemitic attack in Buenos Aires on Sunday as he judged them to be a flight risk and capable of intimidating witnesses.  The judge now has ten days to decide exactly what charges to bring against the five; newspaper reports suggest a number of possibilities, ranging from resistance to lawful authority to assault causing injury and attempting to impose their ideas by force or through fear.

The Federal Police yesterday searched premises associated with the five detainees and their comrades in the “Revolutionary Action Front” and found four handguns as  well as Molotov cocktails.

The government continues to characterize the attack on the celebration of the 61st anniversary of the Israel’s foundation as the work of a few crazed misfits. Its own close relationship with local antisemite  and social campaigner Luis D’Elía, as well as with Hugo Chávez - Iran’s best friend in the region - prevent it from doing otherwise.
