A New Antisemitic Attack in Buenos Aires

A street event jointly organized by the government of the city of Buenos Aires and the Israeli embassy to celebrate the 61st anniversary of Israel’s foundation was yesterday disrupted by a gang of 15 or 20 people who emerged from a nearby subway station and laid into members of the public with clubs, chains and nunchakus.

Between blows they shouted slogans like “Death to the Zionist Jews!” and scattered leaflets bearing the name of the Revolutionary Action Front. Three people were taken to hospital for treatment, two of them are said to be in a serious condition. One police officer was also injured seriously enough to be kept overnight in hospital. Five arrests were made, the rest of the gang escaped. One of those detained is Leonardo Del Grosso, a prominent member of the far left Quebracho group; another was found to be carrying a sevillana, a kind of knife that’s quite unsuitable for peeling apples or slicing bread.

Just to add a comic touch, as I write these lines there is a demonstration by various left wing groups going on outside the Israeli embassy. The demonstrators are demanding the release of those detained yesterday and condemning “police repression”.

While the handful of police present at the scene of the original incident seem to have done what they could to deal with what occurred, it beggars belief that the event wasn’t better protected. It was obvious that it was likely to be attacked by scum afflicted with the Jew obsession that swells the veins of a large part of the left in Argentina.

These facts, unfortunately, became a constant in the events related to Israel or the Jewish community in Buenos Aires.

Let me share with you the following videos about the attack in BA (in spanish):

“Buenos Aires synagogues get bomb threats”
    May 19, 2009

“BUENOS AIRES (JTA) — Two Buenos Aires synagogues received bomb threats in the wake of violent anti-Semitic attacks at a public street celebration.

Monday’s bomb threats on the Amaijai and New Israeli Community synagogues, both located in the highly Jewish-populated neighborhood of Belgrano, proved to be false.

Also Monday, hundreds of protesters, mostly women and children, clamored for the release of the five men arrested Sunday during a cultural event organized by the Buenos Aires city government to celebrate the 61st anniversary of Israel. Several people were injured during the violent demonstration at the street fair.

The men have been identified as members of the Front of Revolutionary Action, which has links to leftist radical groups such as the political organization Quebracho. The group maintains an Internet blog and defines itself as Marxist-Leninist….”
