Just a note to signal a further small development in the case of the AMIA massacre, a bomb attack on a Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires which cost 85 people their lives on July 18, 1994.
Moshen Rabbani - one of the suspects in the case whose arrest is being sought by the Argentine authorities and a former Iranian cultural attaché here - last year had an asset freeze placed on a number of properties that were found to be in his name in the city of Buenos Aires.
It has now been reported here that the State Prosecutor Albert Nisman has placed similar orders on five further properties which have been found to belong to the fugitive diplomat in the province of Buenos Aires.
So, though he hasn’t set foot in the country for more than 10 years it looks like Rabbani has continued to be the owner of of a fair-sized scattering of properties spread across the city and province of Buenos Aires. Who has been managing them for him in his absence? For what purpose were they originally acquired? Even though the asset freeze orders arise from civil liability aspects of the case, one would hope that Nisman and his team are looking into these questions.
