A synagogue in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, was attacked and vandalized last night. The assailants sprayed slogans like “Death to the Jews”and “Jews Get Out”on the walls. The thugs also destroyed Torah scrolls and prayer books.
“We’ve never had such an incident. It looks well-planned,” said communal leader David Bitan. “We were afraid something like this would happen. The official press was becoming more and more anti-Israeli and anti-Jews. There are hundreds of anti-Semitic articles, ads, and fliers.”
What’s notable about Bitan’s statement is his observation that the attack was “well-planned.” The Chavez regime’s brutal anti-Israel rhetoric has escalated during the Gaza crisis, becoming virtually indistinguishable from antisemitism. No doubt Chavez’s alignment with the Iranian regime is also a factor here. The result: of all the Jewish communities around the world, Venezuela’s are currently the most vulnerable.

If I were living in Caracas I would be packing my bags just about now.
