Sixty percent of Americans in the nationwide survey said they were sympathetic toward the Israelis, compared with 17 percent who supported the Palestinians, CNN reported today on its Web site. Even among the "moderates" the preference is for Hamas by 31 to 20 percent. Among the gauchistes the each side was blamed equally 24 to 24 percent. I would have thought that conservatives would be on the side of Israel as the far left especially in Europe has been vociferously anti-Israel. I am not sure I understand what accounts for it.
