Mr. Birnberg’s comment is irrelevant, because, as a Jew, he should know that Shylock did not understand Jewish law at all; only that part of it which served his own personal grievances at that particular moment. Much like Mr. Birnberg himself, I am sad to say.
Any argument that begins “As a Jew/Scot/Kurd/Mennonite …” or whatever, should be examined with great care
Mr. Benedict Birnberg’s letter isn’t the only problem here.
The real problem is with the Guardian that never misses an opportunity to publish and antisemitic letter no matter how absurd.
