		<description>To me Benny Morris' assessment is too pessimistic even for him. 

For starters I don't believe Europe will turn against Israel if for no other reason that they fear a resurgence of antisemitism in their own countries which will definitely return the conservative right to power. 

Public opinion in those societies is driven by the media which for the most part don't seem to understand or if they do don't care what is at stake.

In addition the rise of Iran to regional power has also concentrated the minds of the Arab governments. Their fear of Iran is probably as great as their hatred of Israel. 

Hence the ambiguous almost supportive of Israel comments coming out of Cairo and other Arab States.

Other issues Morris brings up such as the demographic questions are real but these are longer term issues and as Moshe Arens recently says no one can foretell the future. (See his Haaretz article “Seven ways to stop the rockets.”)

Israel faces serious challenges but so do many European countries. Let’s not in this time of war and economic woes succumb to despair.</description>
