Is anyone there? I tried to post this earlier:

There is so much wrong with Victoria Brittain’s article on the so called “siege of Gaza” that I am surprised it was published at all. Of course the Guardian has a history of publishing anti Israel screeds which bear no resemblance to reality.

Petra is right to complain that the comparison made by the article between the Congo and Gaze is meaningless. The number of casualties alone should have disqualified the comparison. Wikipedia lists the number of casualties of the first Congo war between 1998 and 2003 as 13 million plus. Since then an additional five plus million have died from various causes. This puts the Congo wars in the top twenty worst wars in history in terms of casualties.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_and_disasters_by_death_toll

By contrast the number of casualties in the ongoing Gaza-Israel conflict is miniscule.

This is why Ms. Brittain like most other Israel haters writes about the “future consequences” in Gaza rather than actual events. Predictive condemnation is a favorite technique used by Israel haters. When the predictions don’t materialize they invent different predictions.

In addition there is a history to the conflict which goes back to Israel withdrawal from the territory and encompasses the Hamas take over and the civil war with the PA authority which Ms. Brittain purposely lives out.

I found this article totally vacuous in terms of facts and nauseatingly condescending to
David Miliband and Bernard Kouchner. Mr. Kouchner is one of the most tireless workers fro human rights in the world. He is co-founder of Médecins Sans Frontières and is better aware of actual humanitarian needs than anyone.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Kouchner

He certainly doesn’t need lectures from an obsessed British antisemite.

Ms Brittain is a self righteous air head.

Does anyone take her seriously?

If so why did the editors not even bother to correct the mistakes in her article?

"They should go to Gaza now and see for themselves, as Tony Blair has so shamefully failed to do in his role as Special Envoy for the Quartet. Mr Miliband and Mr Kounchner might then want quietly to tell the Israeli government it will become more and more difficult for them at home to resist the calls for boycott, divestment and sanctions which Palestinian civil society has been asking US and European church and other human rights groups to work for."

It's Mr. Kouchner and not "Mr Kounchner."

Moreover what is a "European church?"

Is it something like the EU but with spiritual aspirations or is it just another "human rights" (read antisemitic, i.e. human rights for everyone except Jews) organization?

Finally please inform Victoria that "the European Church" has a long history of human rights concerns. Concern, which led them to sponsor expulsions (England),inquisitions, (Spain), Pogroms Russia, and need I say it indifference to Holocausts, (Europe). Here is the European Church in a nutshell.

Me thinks this Church will embrace her bigoted suggestions at their peril.

I just happen to come from Victoria Brittain's article on Cif -- still a bit dizzy with nausea. Frankly, it's hard to believe: over the past decade, more than 5 million people in Congo died of war-related causes, and when there is finally some international attention focusing on this dreadful situation, all Ms. Brittain knows to do is to protest "but what about Gaza!!!" -- you have to see it to believe it...
