John Mearsheimer is upset again. Interviewed here, he complains the discussion over his and Stephen Walt’s book on the “Israel Lobby” hasn’t been “terribly useful”. He adds that the debate has been disfigured by “personal attacks.”
Nothing new there. However, more attention is being paid to what has so far been an underreported aspect of the book’s myriad flaws: its methodology. Have a read of this Judeosphere post to learn more.
Finally, Jeff Weintraub has updated his extensive list of rebuttals and critiques directed at M+W. It’s an exhaustive list and an extraordinarily valuable resource, not least because it demonstrates the great number of people who have devoted time to explaining the books’ weaknesses, rather than - here’s Mearsheimer again - “going to such lengths to marginalize us and discourage people from reading our book.”
